“Coming from a small village never stopped me; every time I won a medal I kept getting stronger and more confident to take on the world. When I was growing up my father said to me, ‘To be the best, always remember the three D’s — Discipline, Dedication and Determination. Follow your heart. Do what you are passionate about.’ Deepika Padukone

In what is probably a first for Nike India, the sportswear brand has created a new commercial celebrating India’s female athletes and urging girls to go out and play a sport. Entitled “Da Da Ding”, it stars Bollywood actress (and national-level badminton player) Deepika Padukone alongside squash player Joshna Chinappa, hockey player Rani Rampal, cricketers Harmanpreet Kaur, and footballer Jyoti Ann Burrett.

Set to a track titled ‘Da Da Ding’ by Genera8ion (featuring American rapper Gizzle), the group of athletes are shown training as a message to India’s next generation of women: break conventions and define your own success by bringing sport into your lives.
