The Standard Chartered Mumbai Marathon is the largest marathon in Asia as well as the largest mass participation sporting event on the continent and is amongst the top ten marathons in the world. Over the years, the fundraising platform has assumed a stature of eminence of being the single largest philanthropic sporting event in India. 512 NGOs have successfully raised over INR 162 crore over the past 13 editions.
Distance running characterizes the power of one’s ambitions and the awareness of one’s abilities to realise those ambitions. Unlike other competitive sports, it is an intensely personal experience. We spoke to ultra runner Dan Lawson to get his top 10 tips on how to complete the 42.195 km race tomorrow.

Last year he represented the UK in a 24 hour World Championship in Italy that was part of the Gold Medal winning team, as well as personally coming 22nd in the world individually. In 2015 Dan won the World and European Championships with Team GB as well as setting course records at the 145 mile Grand Union Canal Race, the 85 mile Ridgeway Ultra and the 55k Black Rat as well as finishing 2nd at the 153 mile Spartathlon one of the most iconic ultra races in the world. He is also a world record holder for the longest distance covered in a week on a treadmill and has numerous distance records set in India.
In 2016 Dan also competed with team GB at the 24 hr European Championships and raced what is known as the toughest ultra in the world, the 135 mile Badwater Ultra in Death Valley USA.
1. Sleep well the day before
2. Don’t eat anything unusual the day before
3. Eat normally, no need to carb load
4. Make a point of running the first few miles nice and steady
5. Try to run a negative split ( run faster in the last half than first )
6. Enjoy it!
8. High five the crowd
9. Drink lots of water and salt tabs
10. Be happy with yourself and all the good deeds you are doing to help others in need
