OSCAR in 2016 : Highlights from an amazing year
// BRITISH ROYALS PRINCE WILLIAM AND KATE FLEW INTO MUMBAI TO VISIT OSCAR //
Prince William and Kate Middleton flew into Mumbai to play a game of football with kids and our founder Ashok Rathod. Out of the millions of NGO’s in India, of course OSCAR was one that they wanted to visit.
// 100 CHILDREN RALLY IN THE RAIN TO PROMOTE HEALTH & HYGIENE //
Every year we come together with the children of OSCAR to raise awareness on serious issues that their communities are faced with. This year health and hygiene was the focus, the heavy monsoon rains couldn’t even stop OSCAR kids.
// FIRST GIRLS YOUNG LEADER TRAINING COMPLETED WITH THE BRITISH CONSULATE //
Last year we got the opportunity to work with the British Consulate on our first Girls Young Leader Training. OSCAR was the only NGO in the whole of Asia that they supported and our collaboration enabled us to conduct a focussed programme on the key issues that girls are faced with in their community.
// LAUREUS SPORT FOR GOOD TEAMS UP WITH MERCEDES BENZ FOR NEW PARTNERSHIP WITH OSCAR //
This exciting new partnership with two major organisations in Mercedes and Laureus sport for good, will bring a girls sport for development programme across 8 slum communities in Mumbai, with the aim of empowering and encouraging 240 girls to reach their maximum potential.
// 70TH INDEPENDENCE DAY FOOTBALL3 TOURNAMENT //
Created by streetfootballworld football3 is a unique way of playing football that is changing lives across the world. It is based on the principle that the basic values of fair play, gender equality, teamwork and respect are just as important as football skill. To mark India’s 70th Independence day we thought it would be fitting to put together a football3 event for the U-16 children at the OSCAR foundation.
// OSCAR’S NEW TOY LIBARY CELEBRATES THE MOST BASIC RIGHT OF A CHILD – HAVING FUN //
We all know that children love to play, but what we may not know is the importance of play in a child’s life. Play is essential to every area of a child’s growth and development and opening a new OSCAR Toy Library to give children aged between 2 and 12 a space to indulge in recreational activities where learning is all part of the fun was a key moment for OSCAR in 2016.
// OSCAR IN LYON – FESTIVAL 16 //
Being invited to participate in the global celebration of football for good, amongst 80 other delegations from around the world at Streetfootballworld Festival 16 in Lyon, was a truly inspirational and life changing experience for the OSCAR team.
// OSCAR TEAM MOVES INTO NEW OFFICE //
In the six years since OSCAR Foundation was founded we have been on a fantastic journey. From starting with just 18 children we now work with over 3,000 children across Mumbai and India. The OSCAR team has achieved amazing things and now they have a new office to do their work justice.
