Countdown to the OSCAR UK Schools Football Tour October 2017
Plans for the OSCAR UK Schools Football Tour 2017 are well underway. Schools across the UK are working tirelessly to raise money to provide the OSCAR children with a life changing experience. The programme will provide enriching experiences, in keeping with the ethos of the foundation: educating through sport & creating young leaders for the future. Fundraising kicked off with the ‘Big Beaudesert Dribble for OSCAR’, children and staff from Beaudesert Park School in Gloucestershire dribbled the ball an incredible 4,543 miles supported by England football legends, Tony Adams and David Seaman. Pupils at Old Buckenham Hall (OBH) in Suffolk organised a fun run, Aldro Prep School a sponsored swim, Cheltenham College a ‘World Cup Day’ and Hall Grove Prep School held cake and clothes sales, with many more exciting fundraising activities planned for the Autumn. Cheltenham Ladies’ College pupils, Ruby Sowerbutts and Chineyere Hatton published a Global Cookbook, donating all proceeds to OSCAR.
Volunteer teacher, Max Cooke has spent three months in the slum community teaching English and preparing the team for the adventures which lie ahead. To keep up to date with the frenzy of excitement check out the OSCAR UK Tour Facebook page. The OSCAR tour has inspired and energised organisations and individuals to both raise money and offer exciting opportunities. Multi award winning lyricist, Sir Tim Rice has generously given the children tickets for The Lion King in London and will be accompanied by national treasure, Elaine Paige. Tree top adventure company, Go Ape is opening their doors exclusively for the team and Chelsea FC is providing a coaching session. There are countless more exciting adventures and experiences for the team included in the itinerary… watch this space… more will be announced shortly.
At home in Mumbai, under the watchful eye of founder, Ashok Rathod, Maruti Chauhan, Govind Rathod and Sunita Rathod have all been working hard to make this tour a reality. The children are now the proud owners of passports and have been training hard on both fitness and football skills. Special thanks to The Renewable Design Company and Mitchells for getting the ball rolling and paying for passports and visas and Steppes Travel for organising flights.
